No prior rowing experience required.
A novice rower is a first time rower or beginner.
ELIGIBILITY Rising 7th Grade through 12th Grade. Novice (Beginner) camp is for rowers who have not completed a prior rowing camp or high school spring rowing season.
OBJECTIVE The week camp will focus on learning basic rowing skills. The coach to rower ratio will be no greater than one coach per ten rowers.
REGISTRATION Registration and payment for camps will be online through RONIN Racing. Exception will be the swim test and VHSL physical form. (See Camp Forms below)

CANCELLATION A week camp session will be canceled if there are less than eight rowers registered by the Friday before the camp starts. If a week camp session is canceled, the registee will be fully refunded or may transfer to another available week session camp. Cancellation Policy
DAYS: Monday thru Friday
Session 1: June 18 thru 22 – Closes 17 June, Cap of 24 Rowers
Session 2: July 16 thru 20 – Closes 15 July, Cap of 24 Rowers
Session 3: August 6 thru 10 – Closes 5 August, Cap of 24 Rowers
TIME: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 to 11:00 AM; Friday, 9:00 to 12:00 PM
FEE: $125 for one week.
CAMP WATER BOTTLE All camp participates will receive a camp reusable water bottle on the first day of the camp session. To help reduce the use of disposal water bottles and keep our boathouse clean, rowers are encouraged to bring water daily in their new camp reusable water bottle.
MINI REGATTA A mini regatta will be conducted on the last day of camp. Details on the mini regatta will be handled out on the first day of camp.
MISSED PRACTICES If a rower will miss practice(s) due to family vacation or work, please inform the coach at the start of the camp session.
Swim Test: All participants are required to have swim test completed prior to the start of camp (no exceptions). Bring the completed swim test form to first day of rowing camp. Rowers will not be able to go on the water without turning in a completed swim test form. Camp Forms
Copies of the following swim certifications are accepted:
- Swim Test Form signed by certified life guard or swim instructor
- BSA Swim Merit Badge-signed White or Blue Card
- Red Cross Life Guard Certification Card
- Swim Team Participation Certificate with coach signature
The following items are not accepted as proof of swim:
- Swim Team Trophies or Ribbons
- Swim Team Meet Schedules
- Swim Test Form signed by parents only
Note: Swim test are available from the Chinn Aquatic Center. Call to schedule an appointment.
Physical Examination Form: All participants are required to submit a completed VHSL Feb 2017 Physical Examination Form to be completed by qualified medical personnel. The form must have a doctor’s signature dated 1 May 2018 or later. Ensure all four pages are completed with required signatures. Make a copy to bring to the first day of rowing camp; keep the original for your records.
Note: Same day sports physicals are available from NextCare for $25. Walk-ins are accepted.
FIRST DAY The first day of camp will be in-processing, boathouse and equipment familiarization, and water safety video.
